Do you find yourself at a crossroads? Are you wondering what am I meant to do or am I living my life the way I should be or am meant to be? There is immense power in pivoting. There is power in the art of knowing when to pivot and from experience that skill of knowing comes from the understanding of your voice, who you are, your connection with your intuition and honestly listening to your body and when you feel out of alignment, because that is what pivoting is. It’s adjusting when you feel out of alignment. I want to share my story of pivoting because If you feel like it’s too late pivot. I want you to take a seat and listen to my story.
Hello again, My name is Kate Avery and if you’re new here, just a little background info for you, I have been a Nurse since 2015, I’m a mother of 3, I’m an entrepreneur coach, and so much more. Over the last few years, I started to notice how nursing was not fitting the needs of my growing family.
So I decided enough was enough and I embarked on this journey to find a better way. This has included countless self-help books, multiple courses, and a deep dive into figuring out what the heck I wanted. Now, I started this podcast to inspire and motivate you, if you also feel the burnout of nursing while supporting a growing family. Then you’re in the right place. Let’s build our dream life together.
Every week I share my adventures and I share hard lessons I have learned along the way. Make sure you follow the podcast and download the episodes every Friday, you can also follow me on Instagram at Inspirern.
Pivoting, like I said is all about knowing when you’re out of alignment. Now what does alignment mean? Well, it can mean a lot of things and I do feel like this is a very individualized feeling but I always feel icky. I know this is so technical but when you know you know. It can be a sick feeling in my gut. It can feel like frustration or even anger in me. I can feel like I am always amped up or overstimulated even though that’s not what the situation calls for. It just doesn’t feel right or good at that moment.
My Moment of Knowing
Do you feel like you understand your body? Ever have a sense that something is wrong or just not right? Do you listen to this voice?
For me, I used to listen to my nursing gut so well but my intuition, not so much.
Nursing intuition is that gut feeling. If I had a patient and I just felt like we were not going to be doing well. I looked for signs very closely and I took action quickly. Do you think I could do this for myself, NO.
When I started this journey I was terrible at listening to my intuition in my day-to-day life. This was one of the first things I tried to focus on. Rebuilding my relationship with my intuition was a must-do. The best way to do this is to simply journal.
You knew it was coming.
I love journaling. It’s my favorite activity because when I get in the zone, I find that I am writing and it’s all intuitive writing. The words are almost just falling out onto the page. You can ask a question and hear the answer so clearly. This is a skill, a muscle that you do have to develop, but journaling is a great way to start. It’s cheap, it’s easy, you don’t have to buy any books. You simply sit down, create your quiet space, and start journaling.
Your intuition is typically that small voice that you hear but drown out. After ignoring that voice for so long, I was surprised by how much I had tuned it out. It has been a journey to strengthen this muscle again and reconnect with my intuition.
I found this great podcast episode that can help you with this. Lori Harder from Earn Your Happy spoke with Jenni Finley. I loved this episode.
Looking Back on My Moment
Can you think of a moment where you knew you were living out of alignment? Was there one point in time when you saw your life in slow motion and thought, “What in the hell am I doing? Is this my life for real? (and not in a good way). I have had several of these moments but the one that broke the camel’s back was school drop-off one morning.
Let Me Paint You a Picture
After another morning of struggling and fighting to get two toddlers dressed, we are finally in the car and on the road. I look at the clocks and we have just enough time if I can get there in 15 minutes, let’s be honest, it takes 18 minutes, but I am willing to lie to myself and drive like I stole it.
The anxiety is building in my gut. I am rushing. The kids scream in the back seat. Connor repeats “I hate school, I’m not going” at the top of his lungs. Izzy chimes in with her 1-year-old version of this.
The car is in utter chaos. The sun isn’t even up, and all I can do is succumb to the overwhelming emotions. Tears stream down my face. I have to pull it together for drop-off. I don’t want the teachers at school to see my face swollen and red.
That was it. Later that morning once everyone was unsuccessfully dropped off at school, I began to think to myself. Is this really how I am going to live? I know everyone says this is just a tough season of life. I will get better. But I don’t believe them. This is the season that I have created. I am living so out of alignment that I can’t continue to do this to anyone. I just imagine the universe screaming and waving her hands. Listen to the signs I am sending you. Pivot pivot pivot…
If this story brought up too many emotions for you, meet me for the How to Create the Life You Love workshop.
In this 1 hour Zoom, I’ll take you through the process of assessing the life that you’re living right now. We’ll look at areas that you’re not feeling fulfilled in, that you’re not feeling happy in. Now can I tell you, that it’s okay to feel unhappy or unfulfilled in certain areas of your life. What’s not okay is staying in that same energy, and doing the same stuff that’s producing the same results. That’s not okay, so I’m here to help you.
Once I teach you how to assess areas of your life, I’ll walk you through the process of creating the life that you want. We’ll build a vision in those areas that you feel need some more attention. Then I’m going to show you my unique Stepping Stone Method to turn those visions into an organized action plan.
I get a lot of clients who are afraid to do this step because their vision seems so outlandish and they feel like it’s not safe for them to believe their vision is possible. Yet, that is the beauty of my Stepping Stone method. You can break a vision down so small, All the way down to the point where it becomes a goal that you can do without fear.
Listen life is not meant to be survived, it’s meant to be lived. If you are lost and feel like you don’t know what you want, yet everything I just shared resonates with you.
I want you to register for my workshop and I will help you start this journey and you will come out the other side with a game plan and some steps you can start taking action on.
If You Think It’s Too Late
Do you realize that the life you’re living is not what you thought it would be and now you’re too far down that road to turn around now?
Bull Shat
I am going to share my story and yes it’s scary but I am still living my truth here on this podcast so here it goes.
You all know I have been a nurse since 2015. Over the years, I have continuously been in education basically until today. I worked in several different units over the years, including a progressive unit, and then ICU. When I graduated in 2015, I had my ADN. Let me tell you that I waited approximately 3 months before enrolling in my Bachelor’s program. I just needed to keep moving and keep going if I wanted to advance.
By the time I finished my Bachelor, I was working in the ICU. If you have ever worked in the ICU you know that 9 out of 10 nurses are usually there to learn and gain experience for their NP or CRNA applications. Naturally, I got the itch to keep advancing.
I decided on the NP routine and quickly found myself in a doctorate program. Yes of course I choose the biggest degree because I am an overachiever and I must know the most. This is an old ICU trait that I am trying to break.
Currently, I am still working to complete this doctorate. I have been attending classes for four years now, and I’m stuck in the research phase.
My point is that I am very far down into my nursing journey, and to then pivot to coaching may seem crazy. When you find yourself living a life in misalignment your only option is to pivot. The awareness is your chance to run, to make a change. If you actively continue to live in misalignment with full awareness of your actions. Oh man, you will feel it. Life will feel harder and torture to keep going.
The universe will make you change eventually, how long do you want to suffer?
At this moment I feel very aligned with coaching. I love inspiring other people to go after their dreams because I don’t think that people understand, now is the time.
Right this minute you have access to millions of people, billions of people probably. There’s no ceiling anymore.
I always just feel so gut-wrench when I hear from a fellow nurse that they are just so stuck. I remember that feeling of being so boxed.
You have so many passions and so much talent, but you won’t go after those big dreams because you’re too far down the road.
If you’re thinking it’s way too late for me to pivot? I challenge you to rethink that, I challenge you to register for this Workshop because this is when you’re going to find and build the vision of what you want. You don’t have to think about it as reality.
You can think about it this way, if you were to stumble onto a million dollars, what would you do with it? What kind of life would you live? What would you be building and then I’m going to teach you how you can make that a reality. You don’t have to be dramatic and quit your job right now. You don’t have to uproot your whole family if that’s not what you want to do. I’m going to teach you how you can build that reality.
Staying True To YOU
I believe in you, but do you?
Do you believe in your vision?
This road of pivoting can be hard because you have to evolve and change the way you think sometimes in order to find success. If we all continued to do the same old same old, what kind of results would you expect? Right the SAME.
Mindset, Shadow Work, and Trust
Mindset is a must. I have already said it before, but I’ll say it again. Mindset is your key to success. You have to learn to really embody a growth mindset and to continuously reframe your mind and disprove those beliefs.
In last week’s episode, we spoke about limiting beliefs. These are just things that you’ve learned along the road. I want you to know that all of these beliefs are not your own. Many of them are from your parents or from past generations. Things that have been kindly passed down.
Disproving these beliefs and rewriting your story is the key to keeping that positive mindset. I’m not saying you have to have a toxic positivity mindset. What I am saying is you should trust and believe in your vision. You can know where you want to go and still work through the shadow work.
I said it on my Instagram, the grass is greener on the other side, you have to go through the hard parts. You have to feel those feelings. You have to move through it and rewrite your story.
You’re doing all the things.
It’s time to wholeheartedly trust in your vision and stay true to it. Remind yourself why you’re doing it.
I am guilty of creating elaborate vision boards that are going to take me a little bit to see come to life. My road is a long one sometimes. Building that mindset, learning to disprove limiting beliefs, learning to rewrite my story, and trusting that my vision was given to me for a reason is what keep me going.
