Watch ME!
Hello again, My name is Kate Avery. I have been a Nurse since 2015, I’m a mother of 3, I’m an entrepreneur coach, and so much more.

Over the last few years, I started to notice how nursing was not fitting the needs of my growing family. So I decided enough was enough and I embarked on this journey to find a better way. This has included countless self-help books, multiple courses, and a deep dive into figuring out what the heck I wanted.
Now, I started this podcast to inspire and motivate you, if you also feel the burnout of nursing while supporting a growing family. Then you’re in the right place. Let’s build our dream life together.
Every week I share my adventures and the hard lessons I have learned along the way.

Every Journey Is Unique
Let me start this episode by saying that everyone’s path in this journey of Re self-discovery is different and finding your spark is a “unique to you” situation. I am sharing my story in hopes that you will find a few things that light you up and can add to your journey. This is honestly how I found many of these things, through suggestions and influence from others out there.
To put it simply, you have to find time for yourself. Whether it’s 15 minutes, an hour whatever you can get, take it! The three things I have found to be the most helpful have been exercise and nutrition, Self-care habits, and finding myself again through journaling and workbooks.
Exercise
I think exercise is usually the first step that a lot of women take when reigniting the spark. For me, it was all about feeling like myself again in my own skin.
Prior to having my three beautiful babies, I was in amazing shape, but with my first pregnancy the donuts really called my name and I ended up gaining around 50 lbs. I had a little bit of nausea in the beginning so I focused most on not getting sick instead of eating what I should. After she was born, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Hashimotos to be exact. With Hypothyroidism, it can be difficult to lose weight and find a balance that works for you.
Also because this is an autoimmune disease, It sucks. You will feel like shit. The inflammation is outrageous and I developed a histamine intolerance. So my skin was itchy and I would get hives if my skin was irritated. Just miserable. All of these conditions are affected greatly by hormones, so postpartum is a bitch when you have these autoimmune disorders. Movement is hard but now that I am well on my journey I can say in hindsight that I feel 1000% better and a lot of my conditions have subsided. Just regulating my hormones through nutrition and exercise has helped me so much.
By the time I was pregnant with my second, I had purchased a peloton bike and I exercised every day. I loved Peloton and it was a great way to stay in shape but when I was postpartum I was not able to hit the goals that I wanted to achieve
Something that I have started to do, which came from me feeling more confident and becoming less apologetic for being me, is to stop lying to myself and own who I am. I often would feel guilty that I wasn’t able to hit my goals on my own. Or that I was willing to “waste money” on expensive supplements or a nutritionist or a coach. I come from a long line of scrimp and savers.
That is not me. I am Taurus, I like nice things and I stopped feeling bad about choosing my health as a priority. Now I will say loud and proud that I am just the type of person who needs more direction. I need a coach or a program to follow and I need someone to hold my hand until I feel like I can fly. That is where I get my success and I am very successful once I feel capable.
As well as being a Taurus, my human design is a Generator and If you know anything about HD, generators are not meant to reinvent the wheel, they are the doers. So Yes, give me a clear plan with instructions and I can make it happen. Give me too much freedom and I will flop. Just me and I own that.
Where I have Found Success
Now when it comes to exercise, I have been going to Orange Theory. Which is a gym that essentially has HIIT classes. I started in July of 2024 and am still going strong. Right now we are in the transformation challenge and I am loving the results I am getting. I am officially as of today down 11.4 lbs in 3 weeks. In addition, I started to use a nutrition app through the gym called Stronger U. Love it. It is a lot like my fitness pal but with a coach. So you track and every 2 weeks you get a review of how you’re doing by your coach with some personal suggestions. It’s very helpful and I am enjoying the results I am getting. I feel confident and strong, I am excited to see what I can do in the next 4 weeks.
Self Care Monster
Now that’s enough of my fitness journey let’s talk about my other favorites that have helped me ignite my spark again.
If you have been here for a while you know I love Angie Bellemare. She started a Glow Up challenge a few years back and I really trusted the process and went all in. The Glow Up has things like a skincare routine, which I had none of, so it was perfect. Stuff like whitening your teeth. Stretching every day. Getting in your water. The self-care things that make you feel awesome. Which at the time I just didn’t prioritize.
This glow-up launched a part of me that I didn’t know was lost. The self-care monster that is the true me. I have always loved a spa day. And anything luxury or pampering, so a glow-up challenge is all me. Remember I am a Taurus.
My Skin Care Routine
Right now, my routine consists of morning skincare, I am using primally pure. I love their ache double cleansing system. You start with the oil cleanser, then a hot rag which is just ahhhh, then the clarifying bar. I spritz the mist and then follow it up with the serum.
Now, I attempt to do a Hemp mask from them, at least twice a week, it has helped decrease the inflammation on my skin. I had really bad hormonal acne, which this product has helped clear up. So that makes me feel good about myself, plus the whole experience feels like a luxury self-care treat I get to do daily.
The skincare routine, which has helped clear up my skin, makes me take time for myself and then I feel more centered and calm. Being centered and calm gives my brain time to recover from a day with three crazy kids and it helps me see progress when my skin clears up and I feel better about myself.
The Real Work Begins Inside
Okay other than my self-care and exercise the last thing that has helped so much is the inner work I do.
This is the part of the podcast that will get a little bit hippy and spiritual but these things have helped me gain more confidence and rebuild my self-worth. The three things I am going to suggest are boundaries, trusting yourself, and complimenting yourself. Let’s dive in.
The Mother Journey is Hard These Days
I can’t speak for other moms but I will speak for myself. My motherhood journey has been a difficult one for my self-worth. I think everyone questions if they are doing a good job but in today’s world, there is so much extra stimuli from online as well as from family that it can make you feel terrible. It can make you feel stuck no matter what you do. Learning to honor your own needs and the needs of your family is important, I have had to learn how to set boundaries and simply ignore the noise. If I don’t need the extra stimulation of your opinion, I won’t listen and I don’t feel bad about that.
Insert the clip from Barbie here. This clip makes me cry everything because of how true it is.
Be Proud of Who You Are
Another big breakthrough came when I realized that no one was saying how proud they were of me or how good of a job I was doing, so I started saying it for myself. I looked for external validation for a long time, and I had to learn that I am my own and most important cheerleader. So if you feel like you’re looking for this validation try complimenting yourself and telling yourself how proud you are of yourself. Truly watch the change. It’s amazing.
I journal every morning and I start by thanking god for the opportunities and then listing what I am grateful for. I will then compliment myself and the things I have done. Just these two things make me feel a deeper connection with my spiritual side and myself.
The last product I will share is another Angie Bellemare product and it’s her new Know Your Worth book. I am just finishing it but if you’re feeling lost and stuck in life right now.
Choose One
Taking time for yourself is where you need to start. Start by exercising or starting a self-care routine or maybe even journaling in the morning.
I hope you found something in my journey that makes you excited and that you are going to try.
