Digital Products Here To Save The Day
When you initially start a business where you’re sharing your passion and your knowledge, the most natural progression is to begin teaching with 1:1 coaching clients. Coaching is the typical move from point A to point B. Yet, coaching can also cause you to burn out if you do not build out the proper offer suite. Part of a good offer suite is to mix up passive and active income. Passive means you do a lot of upfront work and in the end, it all sells itself without much work from you on the daily. Active income means you’re working the hours for the pay. So you coach a client and you make x amount from that transaction.
I am going to go through my top-asked questions and break them down when it comes to digital products.
Why Sell Digital Products
In my years of experience and in all the different ventures I have looked at, digital products are a great offer to have built into your business. It’s a way to package up your knowledge and passion into a “thing” that you can share with others and help them solve a problem.
Digital products are often low entry cost. Now, it takes time to research and create the product but if you research correctly you will have a product that can sell itself. Digital products don’t have to be difficult to create. They can range from a PDF workbook that you design from a template on Canva in a few days or an in-depth course that may take months to format.
Digital products are a form of passive income. If you have been coaching for a while or even have an engaged audience online, you have a huge potential to gain income with a pdf or a mini course. Something that takes you a week or less to develop, and then you can pitch this product to your audience or clients and help them in a whole new way.
Like, I said, the research is where the magic is. You have to know what your audience’s problem is and create solutions to help solve this problem. Market research is the key to the success of the product. Talking to your audience is extremely important.
But what if you don’t have an audience yet? No problem, start thinking about the problem you want to solve and research that. Is there anyone else solving this problem? Start looking at what they offer and think about how you would solve the problem in your own way. Your progress may be a little slower than those with an established audience.
Easy Digital Product Ideas
This is the second most popular question I am asked, which is what is the easiest digital product to sell? The answer is whichever one your audience is dying for.
There is a book that I am going to suggest you read. That is $100 m Offer by Alex Hormozi. Pure magic, it is full of advice in building the perfect irresistible product. I would recommend you read this before you launch your product and follow along. Pay attention to ways that you can pivot your product or tweak it to get that irresistible offer.
Top Selling Digital Products
Here are a few of the most common digital products that I have seen and purchased.
Workbooks
A good old e-book is great if you’re walking your audience through a transformation. Something that has a lot of explanation in it, but it has to be organized in a way that it is easy for them to follow along. There is nothing worse than buying the workbook and getting immediate information overload from it. I have bought products like this and I have made this mistake many times.
Workshops
I have purchased a few workshops in my day and It’s a great way to grab a low-cost quick win solution to a problem. You can also build these out with additional PDFs and workbooks to help support the problem.
Courses
Ohh I am a sucker for a good course. I love massive downloads of information but I will tell you that building these out with support and engagement will ensure that your audience gets their transformation. The courses that I tend to flake on or not implement their strategies are the ones that lack community groups or interaction with the teacher. I know for myself I need to be held accountable, I can cruise through a course and never look at the information again. You want to make sure that your audience is leaving that course with a huge transformation.
When you think about pricing these products always think the bigger the transformation or more hand-holding, the higher the price. You need to know that it costs a lot to be in your presence and for your audience to get access to your mind the price tag should increase.
Why Digital Products Fail
Lastly, Why does my digital product fail? Why am I not seeing a sale?
There can be a few reasons. This question can be the black hole of digital products but there are 2 main reasons. Is there a need for the product? Is there an audience that wants to be taught how to grow on LinkedIn? This is where your market research is so important. It will tell you what your audience is wanting and needing and that’s how you will get the sales.
The second most common issue has to do with your audience again. Did you solve a problem for the wrong audience? Again market research is important here because you could have solved the perfect problem and have an amazing offer but if you’re selling a popsicle in the dead of winter, your audience is not going to buy.
There can be other problems like messaging, your reach on social media, and how big your audience is but these two main issues are the most common and where you should start problem-solving first.
Again grab your copy of $100 m offer by Alex Hormozi and start getting your research on.
