What do you think of when I say Digital Products? At first, I thought about things like planners and journals. When I started to get curious about these digital product-based businesses I was hearing about everywhere on Instagram. I noticed that when people talked about making money online I felt very cringy.
Not to date myself or anything, I come from the beach body era. So when others say things like “building your own business”, It makes me feel kinda gross.
Who remembers the whole affiliate marketing stuff? Listen affiliate marketing is a great thing but I took that little $7 dollar course and I was not interested in how sceemy it felt. Setting up websites and funnels for courses that you have never taken and selling them as your own. It makes me feel like I am lying.
All of this makes my job as a business coach, much harder because I am really just teaching you how to take your passion and knowledge and turn them into a doc or webinar that you can sell to others who want to learn from you.
In today’s episode, I gonna let in on my journey and how I’m different from the other coaches out there. So stick around because I have some juicy secret to reveal.
Hello again, My name is Kate Avery and if you’re new here, just a little background info for you, I have been a Nurse since 2015, I’m a mother of 3, I’m an entrepreneur coach, and so much more.
Over the last few years, I started to notice how nursing was not fitting the needs of my growing family. So I decided enough was enough and I embarked on this journey to find a better way. This has included countless self-help books, multiple courses, and a deep dive into figuring out what the heck I wanted.

Let’s Start From The Beginning
We all have a journey that we need to travel. There are lessons to be learned and skills to be obtained during this journey. But, I will admit that for a very long time, I felt like I was striving to reach this destination. Some peak of the mountain, where I would be able to rest and relax but that destination does not exist.
We have to realize that relaxation and taking time to rest while still keeping our curiosity for more alive, is vital. Living in survival mode, where you are convincing and pushing yourself for just one more hour, one more class, one more load of laundry, it’s not sustainable.
Now I see that I lived in this survival mode because somewhere along the line I promised myself that on the other side of that push would be that destination. I convinced myself that things would get better. But, I had no vision or plan. I wasn’t working my way toward an end goal. I was literally in survival mode, just trying to live my life.
My Journey
My journey is similar to many others out there, in that I pursued a degree to almost the end just to realize, I may not actually want that reality.
With this, I found my strength in searching.
I love to learn new skills and concepts and really deep diving into them. This is probably where my addiction to buying courses comes from but I love to learn new things.
So my very first course was a nurse writers workshop. From this course, I learned the foundations of really an online business. I learned about SEO, blogging, networking, and how to set up a website. It was an amazing foundation but when it came to writing for others I just felt this pull to be doing something for myself. I was definitely being pushed to work for myself.
This path flowed into me becoming a travel blogger. And, I pursued this avenue for a few months before I found Amy Porterfield. Through her book, 2 Weeks Noticed, I really sparked an interest in digital courses and this launched me into the business I have today, but even this path has evolved over time.
I realized that I struggled for several years to simply find what direction I wanted to go in. I would talk about ways to turn my nursing knowledge into a course, using holistic medicine and exploring that avenue, but I really enjoyed mindset work and helping others realize that healthcare doesn’t have to be the final destination.
fast forward to today
Now I help healthcare professionals build digital product-based businesses that make them passive income. All of those courses, all of the knowledge and skill set that I have learned over the past 3 years have now become a resource for many to guide them on their own journey. This journey so far has been very eye-opening and I am enjoying the road.
What Made Me Pick Digital Products
A hook that always gets me is the image of relaxing on a beach, while your phone pings with notifications of another sale.
Who does not want to make money while essentially not working? I don’t think anyone will say no to that. But, realistically we know that some type of effort has to be put in first before this moment can even happen.
I follow a ton of women in the digital product world and have taken so many of their courses, webinars, and workshops that I now know what it takes to get to this point.
what I love about digital products
I love digital products because it is very easy to evergreen these things and create a community that will help you sell these products without much effort from you on the back end. Once the ball starts rolling it’s all about feeding the machine with new products to keep the ball going.
Simply put, if you build the community and you create the outreach (aka reels, podcasts, YouTube videos) things that people can search and find at a later time that then send them to your product. It’s a win-win for everyone.
This is why I love digital products. The opportunity to create income is endless. You can create as much or as little as you would like. I will say that the hardest part of this journey is the creation of the community and learning what their needs are. From this knowledge, you create the product that solves those needs and create the content to draw them in.
Why this side gig is great for healthcare professionals
For healthcare workers, we are in a perfect storm situation. If you’re still working 3-12s then you have the opportunity to build your audience on the side. Healthcare professionals are masters at research and learning new things. Which means your opportunities are limitless. This journey of building a business will require you to constantly assess where you need to strengthen your skills and then you have me to teach you what you feel is missing.
