Imposter syndrome is a sneaky bitch. She likes to creep up when you’re feeling confident and it starts with just a whisper of doubt but if you don’t stop her, she will overtake you with her nagging and noise.

I have been feeling this whisper about my messaging. Here is where that doubt is creeping in. I can talk to anyone face to face and explain to them what I offer and how I help them with so much confidence. Yet, put me online and I stumble over my words like I just took my first public speaking class. Agh, it’s frustrating. I want to show you who I am.
So today, I am sharing with you a process I have been using to kick imposter syndrome where it hurts.

Biggest Breakthrough Trick
Here is a little weirdo trick I have been doing that has given me the biggest breakthroughs: talking out loud in my car as I drive. So I will do it when I drive home from the gym or when I am driving to work. Basically, I am a creeper driving alone but in today’s world, I like to think that I am just chatting on the phone. I honestly don’t care, I have been able to work through so much this way that you can call me whatever you want. The benefits outweigh the risks.
The other day, I was chatting through a block of mine about, the amount of sales I have made and if what I teach is valuable. I just keep getting hung up on the fact that my sales are so minimal and I feel like a fraud selling my membership to you when I am not able to make the sales that I want to be making.
My little Imposter Syndrome lie
One of my biggest hang-ups is that I am not that entrepreneur who made 1m in her first year. Very far from it. I didn’t gain 100K followers in 30 days. This journey has been nothing short of a struggle but it has been the most eye-opening experience and I have grown substantially since I started.
I may not have an abundance of wealth yet, but I do have an abundance of knowledge that realistically will make my journey easier farther down the road.
Now, I was working through this idea and it dawned on me that those women who make 1m in the first year are a very small percentage of the entrepreneurs out there.
Yet, miss imposter syndrome would tell me that you’re doing something wrong if you haven’t made that much or you’re not cut out for this online business thing.
I want you to realize that just because you didn’t hit the goal doesn’t mean you didn’t grow. So no I have not made as much money in this business as I would like, but I have learned so much from this fact.
You could also say that this lack of funds is a driving factor that keeps me hungry for more. I don’t know if all of this was extremely easy for me if I would have pursued as much learning as I have. We will never know, that was not my path.
Never Become Imposter Syndromes Victim
What I did get out of this journey so far is this process of looking imposter syndrome in the face and saying f you, refusing to be a victim, and consistently refocusing knowing that my dream has been given to me for a reason and I will get there.
Not all days are good, I do a lot of mindset work in order to continue this journey. But I want to share this process that I have found when fighting imposter syndrome
I will say imposter syndrome is a constant. No matter what level you are at, you may rub up against her every once in a while. The key is not to succumb to her nagging.
Finding your Resiliences
The best way I have found to fight imposter syndrome is to overcome the noise with your resilience.
What is resilience: resilience is the ability to withstand or overcome difficulties.
My process when imposter syndrome shows up to the party just to embarrass me, which leads to me drowning in self-doubt, maybe a little cry. But then I pick myself up and sit for a while and I think about what is not adding up. Where am I missing the mark, or what is my weakness at that time? Why am I feeling like an imposter?
This is the overall process, identifying the weakness, educating myself on the skills that are the weakest link, Implementing the skills, and then reassessing. This last bit is the worst for those of us who like instant gratification, You have to give it time in the online space. Nothing happens overnight.
Let’s Work Through My Imposter Syndrome
let’s look at my lack of sales
First, my roadblock was that I didn’t have an offer that I truly felt confident in. So I tackled that obstacle. I joined a membership, I reviewed my DCA course, I went back to square 1 and I created something that felt really good about and felt had a ton of value for you.
Then, I backtracked and started from the basics again. I got really clear on who I was servicing and simplified what problem I was solving.
When I feel light up and passionate about something it refuels my batteries. I was feeling very confused and noisy upstairs until I gave myself permission to trust in the process and go back to step 1.
Finding My Way Back to You
The next big roadblock was and still is, getting my offer in front of your eyes.
I have been binging anything I can get my hands on to understand social media more. I would say that messaging and social media are my biggest weakness right now.
Here is where my resilience muscle flexs. I have been at this game a long time, I know when I speak to you all face to face I have confidence and I can sell my products like hotcakes. When I get on social media. OMG, I am a fumbling fool. I can not string together a sentence, let alone make you feel a connection to me.
Yes, I have a fear of being seen or others not liking what I have to say. Honestly, I envision someone yelling at me and saying you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. When in fact that is a lie because I have lots and lots of education in these areas. But ya know anxiety doesn’t care if the fear is real or not!
My next step in this process is to understand my messaging, understand you and what you need from me, and figure out the algorithm.
If you are also struggling with the authentic messaging part, these are some awesome resources for you.
I like to consume education in a few different ways. I like to read or listen, so I have been re-reading and working through the workbook for Don’t Make It Weird by Collen Nichols and I have purchased two courses now. Jenna Kutcher Instagram Lab and also 0-100K with Kristina Gandre. I have been massively working on my membership my messaging and my reach.
Here is my lesson, you don’t have to allow the imposter syndrome to stop you. You also can look at your progress in more than a two-dimensional view. If you are feeling like you’re struggling with pinning down an idea and starting your process. You’re not alone. That is why I created the free digital product cheat sheet. This is the process that I have learned works best to set up your first digital product business.
Please know I am always here, just a few steps ahead plowing the sidewalk so you don’t have to get your shoes wet.
It’s winter in Michigan right, that analogy just makes sense.
