Hello Queen,
My name is Kate, I am a Nurse, Mom, Wife, and Entrepreneur.
I have been a nurse since 2015. My experience ranges anywhere from ICU to IR.
I understand where you’re coming from, and I’ve been there before. I was that burned-out, overworked, stressed-out, overstimulated woman who knew she wanted something different. But what the hell do ya do?
At first, I thought the answer was to go back to school. And I did.
However, after almost completing my DFNP, I realized I needed to do some inner work. After pouring myself into everything self-development, I finally figured it out.
This podcast and site are the fruits of all my labors. I must share what I have found with other women who are feeling the same way I was.
My promise is to always inspire and motivate you to reach for more. Listen to “you” and what “you” is saying.
You did not waste your time. You are right where you should be. Right now is perfect.
WORK-LIFE Balance… What’s That?
In this episode, we will talk about finding a work-life balance when you are a busy mom who works in the hospital.
In the last episode, we talked about prioritizing yourself which is so important when you are trying to find balance in your lives.
Let’s be honest, Work-life balance is more of a control thing for me. Controlling your time management and planning is the key to success in work-life balance. It will never be perfect, but we use these tips to feel better about our current situation.
I have realized that right now I have a lot on my plate with creating a business, working, kids, husband, and everything in between but it will all be for a different life.
I am aiming for a life with more free time so right now I am dedicated to doing something different. There is always a lot of criticism but with all of this on my plate, I have really realized that what counts is remembering your why.
Here are the Hot Tips!
I am gonna give you my top 5 tips for creating a better work-life balance for you and your family.
Tip 1
Schedule it all out. My kids are still very young so the extra sports and activities are at a minimum currently. But your schedule may be much busier, you have to find a way to make it work for you.
Schedule everything, I wake up in the morning and plan my days out. What are my goals and what I can do this day to move a little closer? Everything gets a time and everything that I need to get done goes on this schedule.
Once I have what needs to be done planned out, I schedule it all. I look at my hours of the day and map it all out. This allows me to stick to a plan and accomplish all of the tasks on my “Get-To” list.
For me and my personality type, I really don’t feel successful unless my “Get-To” list is getting done. So crossing tasks off lights my fire and keeps me going and grabbing those goals.
Tip 2
Prioritize what is going to be a must-do for that day. When I am not working at the hospital, my main focus is on providing value and building this business. I plan my non-hospital days like work days and I schedule everything I want to get done in a day.
But like I said when I look at my 10 goals for the month I pick out things I can do to get closer to those goals and some things may need to be done sooner rather than later. So I will pick out 3 that must get done.
I need to get the to-dos done or I feel like I am falling behind, I don’t know about you. It’s prob my type A personality or the nurse in me, but those tasks must be done. The more I can schedule and get done in the day the closer I am to my dream.
Now we are talking about work-life balance here and I have turned this podcast into a motivational rant about getting your dreams and goals achieved but what about our families? I know it isn’t nice but I plan my business building around my kids and family time. I literally do nothing related to work between the hours of 4 and 8. That is strict kid time. We make dinner, get homework done, and play. This is their time. So as bad as it is I plan all of the time out.
Tip 3
Get your ass up.
I know that working at the hospital is draining, but you have to remember your why. This will drive you to achieve and bust your ass towards that.
There is a quote that I live by that says never give 8 hours of your day building someone else’s dream and then not put time towards your own.
Don’t feed someone else’s dream. Yes, we have to in order to pay the bills right now but it won’t always be like this. We need to bust ass and create these habits of getting up and grinding.
Now what about rest?
I encourage myself and others to work hard and continue to work for their dreams. I believe we have to fight to make the world we crave a reality.
Many will say that your body needs to rest and yes it does but your body will tell you when it needs a break. Take those breaks but don’t allow them to undo all your work.
Get back into the grind, achieve those dreams, and make those goals come to life.
Tip 4
Plan your rewards.
I find that for my personality type if I can plan something very achievable that rewards me I feel like I am actually moving forward. And like I have said before this is a mindset shift.
I love luxurious things and travel. Great rewards for me are quick trips or a family vacation to really get in that quality time. These little rewards will set me on fire and I can accomplish a lot more knowing there is a treasure at the end of all my hard work.
Tip 5
Organize
Organize and optimize your day, I have to set everything up the night before so that I do not waste time in the morning. I need to make sure that my daily “Get-To” list, which includes meditation, journaling, and working out is getting done. So I organize everything the night before allowing me to stay in control of the schedule.
Listen 2023 is almost over, if you are here you want to achieve some goals, put aside the excuses, and just do the damn shit. If you want to lose weight then guess what you are spending your Sunday’s meal planning, shopping, and prepping. Just do it. It sucks at first, change always does, but stick with it, before you know it, you have created a habit and you’re achieving your goal.
So grab your values guide that will be linked in the show notes, Put aside the excuses, and pick 2 things that would bring you joy and fill your bucket. Start doing them. When you have been doing them for three months, guess what it’s a habit, and you’re on your way to success.
Meet me here next week for more chatting. We are gonna look at setting up a morning routine. I share with all of you the strategies I used to build my habits and routine into what it is today.
